WHY I'M RUNNING
As a first generation college graduate, I believe in the power of the American Dream. I am from a blue collar background-- raised in southern cotton mills. From an early age, teachers believed in me and helped me to see the impact of public education. My role model was my 10th grade history teacher, Billy Pennington. He expanded my worldview with engaging lessons, inspirational conversation, and a leadership trip to Washington, DC to witness the inauguration of a president. I was hooked and I knew that public service was my calling.
